The Music Arranger

His/her primary role is to arrange a piece of music based on the needs or requirements of a performer, a group of performers, a conductor, producer or music director. The arranger makes sure that every aspect of a music piece is well harmonized, from the instruments down to the tempo. The music that an arranger works on may either be an original or an already existing music piece.

This Day in Music History: 1886 - Ma Rainey was born in Columbus, Georgia. She retired from performing in 1935 after the death of her mother and sister. She kept herself busy with her other business ventures such as the Airdome and the Lyric Theater which she both managed. Ma Rainey was also active in her church. Her life and music inspired other artists such as Alice Walker who wrote "The Color Purple."
